Breast Cancer Awareness Pins

The entire month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Four years ago my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am happy to say her cancer is in remission today. It was a scary moment at the time I received the news. I was shocked, saddened and confused of the news. She has since gone through much agony, pain and depression. Many hours of chemo treatment, it was rugged, it took a toll on her body, there were some days she didn't want to fight any longer. With love and support of her family she hung in there and fought the fight to survive. Today she is once strong again after going through breast augmentation. Because of her and so many that have fought and continue to fight this dreadful disease we ask that you support Breast Cancer Awareness by purchasing a Pin. Please show your support by helping this fight.

Summer Camp For Kids Across America

     Product Details

In a few short weeks school will be out for Summer break. This is the time of year some families begin to scratch their head and wonder where will their kids be for the summer while they are at work. For many it's a difficult task because it can be costly to find someone to care for the kids or to pay for summer camp. Some are fortunate to find summer care help through government programs while others have the means to afford alternative camps.

An inexpensive camp can be a fishing experience by going to a pier with volunteers who are willing to teach kids to fish. Tennis at the local park or a hunting experience for butterflies, bugs or birds. With the help of volunteers these can be a fun and rewarding experience for kids.

This is the time for fun under the sun, be safe and enjoy your summer experience.

Time Changed To Daylight Savings Time Today

Have you changed your clock time? If you haven't already please turn your clock forward one hour. We are now using daylight savings time for the next six months. Which means the little ones will have to get up earlier in the morning for school. This is the time of the year many of us dislike because our morning starts earlier. Not only kids but adults alike dislike rising early in the morning. "Time to get up" as I would often say to my two little brats. One dislikes getting up early while the other is always easy to rise and begin his day.

Encourage your children to go to bed early so they can be well rested and get up on time. In the beginning of a time change it is always difficult on the kids. It will take a few weeks for them to adjust to the new change in time. After all, we are only human and time will tell.

Our evenings are longer which gives t he kids much more daylight to play. This is the great part of this new time change while the bad part is trying or being able to get up early in the morning. To fight this battle I suggest going to bed early to ensure a good, long night's rest so you can rise in time without any difficulty when morning comes.

Enjoy your new time change, I think it's the best time of the year. So be sure to set your alarm to get up on time to start your day.

Book Of The Week: Boynton's Greatest Hits

Volume 1/Blue Hat, Green Hat; A to Z; Moo, Baa, La La La!; Doggies (Boynton Board Books)
Boynton's Greatest Hits: Volume 1/Blue Hat, Green Hat; A to Z; Moo, Baa, La La La!; Doggies (Boynton Board Books)

Here's a great book for kids, the going to bed book.

I love the Sandra Boynton books. This four-book set is a great starter set. Our children love these books more and more as they get older. They are fun for us to read to them, and they enjoy the pictures and stories. The drawings are very clear (not like some of the books that we have where the illustration is more like watercolor) and that makes it easy for them to tell what they are looking at. I feel like that makes these books better for learning the names of the animals, colors, etc.

"All those positive things said, I personally like the titles in the Greatest Hits 2 box set better. Those four tell better stories. These four are not as narrative, with the possible exception of "Moo, Baa, La La La." "A to Z" is an alphabet book with animals, which is not narrative at all. "Doggies" is really fun because it lets you make barking noises, and our son loves the book, but again, it's not really a story.", "Blue Hat, Green Hat" depicts a cute story (a turkey who doesn't know how to put clothes on properly -- wears his shoe on his head, for instance), but it has few words, so it lacks the terrific sing-songy rhythm that I love in Boynton's other books.

These are good books, but if you want to experience the best of Boynton, consider Greatest Hits 2 instead of (or in addition to!) this one.

Editorial Reviews Review

Artist Sandra Boynton has been charming adults for decades with her whimsical, animal-centric greeting cards and her droll sense of humor. When Boynton transferred her weirdly wonderful critters to board books for babies, she made publishing history. These short, hilarious books are perfectly suited to toddler tastes, with their small size, few words, cheerful colors, funny jokes, and silly animals. Blue Hat, Green Hat is all about getting dressed, and stars a very silly turkey who just doesn't get it. (Feet in the hat, pants on the head, etc.) His continuing refrain is "Oops." Moo, Baa, LA LA LA! investigates the sounds animals make, including pigs who sing. Doggies is "a counting and barking book" about the many sounds dogs can make, and A to Z frolics through the alphabet with amusing animal antics from an aardvark admiring to a zebra zigzagging. Parents love Boynton as much as kids do, and these four books in a compact boxed set will no doubt become household favorites! (Baby to age 3) --Marcie Bovetz

Doc McStuffins still buzzing with major fan fare

Doc McStuffins are still buzzing the internet and TV today. It's a staple item which continues to grab the interest of children around the world. This was a hot brand for the Christmas holiday and continues to be popular today, a month after Christmas.

The Doc McStuffins brand remains popular today after a long lay off and in some cases more popular than its original debut. Kids are excited when they see the McStuffins brand on TV and on store shelves. I have personally seen kids crying and throwing a hissy fuss when visiting stores over the Doc McStuffins brand.

Flu Reaches Epidemic Porportions in US

There's currently a flu outbreak within the United States of epidemic porportions and it has many health experts concerned. According to the CDC this is the most cases of flu they have seen this time of year in over a decade.

Why is this year's flu causing more severe cases?
The type of flu that is going around is called Influenza A (H3N2), which is often linked to more serious diseases than other flu varieties, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, told CNN. People could get more complications from this particular strain, which would make them sick for a longer period of time.

What is flu?
As per WebMD. "Influenza, commonly shortened to "flu," is an extremely contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza A or B viruses. Flu appears most frequently in winter and early spring. The flu virus attacks the body by spreading through the upper and/or lower respiratory tract". Flu like symptoms can be prevented by frequent washing of hands throughout the day, avoiding large crowds such as parties, gatherings and functions. According to the CDC flu kills about 36,000 people in the united states each year, thought the range varies greatly each year. Most deaths are caused by complications from the flu.

If I Get the flu should I go to the emergency room?
You should go to the ER immediately if:
-- You have difficulty breathing or have pain in your chest
-- You can't keep fluids down because of nausea and vomiting
-- Your fever or cough gets better, then worsens
